Megson going nowhere08 October 2002That's the statement from Albion Chairman Jeremy Peace, anyway. Following last night's sacking of Peter Reid up at Sunderland, rumours inevitably began to start about Gary Megson being considered as a possible replacement, especially after the events of the summer where our previous Chairman was said to be certain that Megson was heading to the Black Cats. Peace is quoted on TeamTalk saying: "Gary is an exciting young manager and we are lucky to have him at West Brom. It is only natural a club like Sunderland would be keen on a man who has achieved so much in a short space of time. But I am completely confident Gary Megson will remain with West Brom. We have an excellent working relationship and we are both doing all we can to take this club forward." Interestingly, TeamTalk manage to turn that quote into the headline "WBA warn Black Cats off Megson", which isn't exactly the same thing... Meanwhile, some bookmakers are giving odds of 25/1 on Megson taking over - the same odds as Peter Taylor, Bryan Kidd, Howard Wilkinson and Nigel Clough, with David O'Leary currently the favourite at 5/4 and a whole host of other names such as Mick McCarthy (3/1) and George Graham (7/1) also much further up the list.
