Koumas fee agreed!

21 August 2002

According to a newsflash on the BBC, Albion and Tranmere have agreed a fee of £2.5 million for Jason Koumas. Whether this is the total amount payable now, or whether there are appearance-related extras on top, is unclear - but it seems that Koumas will be joining us in the very near future. Unless, of course, the negotiations over personal terms hit another stumbling block or he unexpectedly fails the medical! Reports suggest that personal terms have been agreed already, so hopefully there won't be any further holdups.

Albion had a bid of £1.5 million turned down last week, with Tranmere holding out for what they appear to be claiming is the same fee we agreed with them at the end of last season, somewhere around £2.7 million when appearances are taken into account. Either way, it still breaks the club record of £2 million paid to bring Jason Roberts from Bristol.

Meanwhile, there has been speculation in some quarters about a late "double swoop" for Lee Hughes and David Thompson from Coventry City, though it seems unlikely that we'd have the resources to bring in both of those on top of Koumas.
