Baggies fail to land Carew

06 August 2002

Albion have failed with an audacious bid to sign 23 year-old Norwegian striker John Carew, according to Planet Football. Currently with Valencia, Carew has been told he doesn't figure in their first team plans despite having paid £'11 million for him two years ago. A move to Fulham collapsed last season when Carew failed a medical because of a knee injury, although his club are now denying this and threatening to sue.

However, Albion's attempts to sign him on loan failed on the grounds that Carew did not even want to talk terms with us and turned us down straight away. According to his agent, "the player's attitude was that they were not a viable option for him. He did not want to go there and that was it."
