A sigh of relief

14 March 2002

Everton have appointed David Moyes as their new manager after reaching agreement with him on personal terms, and with Preston on a compensation package. Albion fans can therefore stop worrying about reports of Megson being number 2 on their shortlist of - er, two - and about reports that Preston were seeking £3 million in compensation while Megson could leave for a paltry £350,000.

Until the next Premiership boss bites the dust, that is...

However, to take the shine off the good news comes the bad: Central news have just reported that talks with Koumas have broken down. Albion are reported to be optimistic about concluding the deal, but he's not likely to be signed in time for Saturday's game at Sheffield United. They also tell us that talks with Cooper have been put on hold pending the outcome on Koumas. Midlands Today, however, reported that both Koumas and Cooper were expected to be signed in time for the weekend.
