Dobie for award?

28 September 2001

He's certainly the talk of the media, following the sensational start to his Division One career with West Brom, and now striker Scott Dobie looks set to scoop the PFA Fan's Player Of The Month award. Albion fans, who have been urged to vote for the player of their choice at the PFA's official website (http://www.givemefootball.com), have put Dobie in the number one spot as the month draws to a close, and the site gives the opportunity for a voter drawn at random to personally present the award to the winning player.

Voting isn't a simple process by any means - the owners of the site have obviously made certain that it will be difficult to rig the poll. After going to the site and selecting "PFA Awards" down the left hand side, you will need to enter a few personal details and your email address. You will then be emailed a password and a web page address; you will need to click on that address and then enter the password in order to fully register your vote. I assume you can only vote once (although I'm too honest to try!)

One thing to watch for when entering your details is a large blank space at the bottom of the page; scroll down below it and you'll find some small print with a check box that needs to be clicked if you don't want to receive an assortment of thinly related junk mail. Tut, tut, PFA - but as the poll is being run in conjunction with MSN I guess we can't expect anything else.

Albion players fare pretty well, as you can find out after you've voted by looking at the current positions in the poll. Hovering just outside the top five at the time of writing are Neil Clement (6th) and Derek McInnes (11th), and still respectably placed are Michael Appleton (38th), Des Lyttle (39th) and Adam Chambers (40th). On the other hand, Albion old boys Lee Hughes and Richard Sneekes don't seem to get a listing at all while Jason Van Blerk is listed but don't figure in the rankings. Down in Division Two, Sean Flynn makes a reasonable showing in 23rd place but Daryl Burgess is another who's not managed to get his name on the list yet.

But snapping on the heels of Our Scott is that Dingle midfielder Shaun Newton. So get your vote in now and make sure things stay that way!
