Defender on his way again04 August 2001Apparently it took me almost as long to cobble together some info on Prilasnig as it did for GM to decide he wasn't interested in him! I don't see how you can judge someone that quickly, but I daresay that professional coaches can tell. However, if he's good enough for the national team and good enough to play in a relatively successful Champions League side, you'd have thought he'd be good enough for us. There was an interesting interview with GM on Radio WM after the Sunderland game. He sounded fairly desperate to sign some new players. He'd seen more than enough to indicate that all the defensive failings were still there from last season, so he had little choice but to conclude that he needed to get people in who wouldn't have those failings. We let too many goals in last season, and he needed to do something about it. He said that they'd matched one club's valuation of a player and then they put the price up, so they matched that and then they put the price up again. He said that if the current offer was rejected, then they'd give up on that player as they weren't prepared to be "arsed about". He also said that 2 other bids were in the pipeline, but that the speed at which those deals might progress at was wholly under the control of their current club. The Hughes situation wasn't discussed in the interview. - Spooky Previous Stories:02 August 2001: East Stand - 16 days and counting 01 August 2001: Hughes to Coventry? 31 July 2001: Hughes breaks silence Back to the News Index |
