Coventry bid: More details

04 August 2001

According to reports, the bid from Coventry City for Lee Hughes stands at £4 million - an increase of £750,000 on their original bid. In addition, an additional £1 million will be added if they achieve promotion back to the Premiership during the four years for which Hughes has been offered a contract.

Wages wise, the offer is reported to be for £15,000 per week, one thousand short of the figure he was reported to have been asking from Albion to stay. Coventry, for now, should have no trouble meeting that figure - but will it be enough to tempt him away?

Bear in mind, also, that 15% of the transfer fee will go to Kidderminster, and 10% will go to Hughes himself as he has not requested the move - which means that Albion would be left with only £3 million to find a replacement and strengthen other areas of the team.
