Can the Baggies beat Big Business?18 May 2001What future have clubs like Albion in a game now dominated by media corporations, millionaire players, and massive investments? The forthcoming changes to the transfer system and major media stakes in the biggest clubs suggest getting back to the big time is becoming even more of a struggle. Are the Baggies and similar teams doomed to continual struggle against such odds? Or can medium-sized clubs and 'fallen giants' find ways to compete with the elite clubs, on and off the field? Shareholders For Albion (S4A) invite all shareholders and their spouses to a social evening and panel discussion of these issues on Thursday 24th May at the Throstle Club in Halfords Lane. Kick off is at 7.30 pm. Panel members will include Brendan Batson (former Albion player, now with the Professional Footballers Association), Tom Ross (Head of Sport with BRMB/Capital Gold Radio, Birmingham), and Albion's newest director, Jeremy Peace. The forum will be chaired by Adrian Chiles - broadcaster with Radio Five Live, presenter of BBC2's Working Lunch, renowned Albion fan and an S4A member himself. Celebrate the end of the season, meet up with other shareholders and fellow members and put your questions to our distinguished panel. Admission is free to S4A members and £2.50 for non-members, although shareholders can join S4A on the night for the standard £5 membership fee and gain free admission.
