The new John Wile?

23 March 2001

Gilchrist the Fox Gilchrist's attitude will go down well with one of the West Brom management, at least, according to Lynn Muollo of Leicester City web site ForFoxSake. BOING asked them what they thought of our new acquisition, and Lynn told us:

"We liked him, a lot. He never really got a chance here; he got stuck on the bench too much. But when he did cover he was usually pretty solid. Odd mistakes, but probably more to do with not used to playing with defence regularly than his lack of skills. A calm, fair player - and a nice bloke."

But what will certainly impress Baggies fans, critical of a defence that looks distinctly casual at times, is his attitude:

"He plays in a very similar style to Matt Elliott who he learnt the ropes with at Oxford. He's also not scared to go into challenges. You'll see photos of him with big plasters on his head and blood pouring... He gets clobbered and gets straight back up bleeding but carries on - he has to be really injured to stay down, which is why he was well respected here."

"It's a shame we're losing him and we hope he does well for you - he deserves it."
