Tickets? Get 'em in quick!

16 January 2001

Albion have just issued a statement to clarify the situation regarding ticket availability for home fans for the rest of the season. Now that demolition has started in earnest on the Rainbow stand (expect to see a pile of rubble in its place on Saturday), the ground capacity has been reduced to around 19,000 for the last nine games of the season.

Given that the Club have to offer ten per cent of the seats to away fans (i.e. 1,900 tickets) and that a further 411 seats will be out of action in order to form a barrier between home and away fans in the Smethwick end, the ground capacity for home fans has been reduced to 15,824. Take away the number of home season ticket holders - 12,539 - and you're left with a "floating" number of tickets for home fans of just 3,285 (it's a bit like showing your working in the maths exam, this!)

Anyway, the upshot is that you're going to find it very difficult to pay on the gate for the remaining home games this season. For instance, tickets for this Saturday's game against Sheffield United are now completely sold in the Birmingham Road and Halford's Lane stands, with only a few hundred remaining for the Smethwick End. The Club have said that there will be NO TICKETS ON THE TURNSTILES for home fans, so paying on the gate isn't an option - make sure you get one in advance.

The best way to guarantee yourself a place in the ground for the rest of the season is to get a season ticket - the ticket office will continue to sell them for the remaining home games at the appropriate rates.
