New stand gets go-ahead

15 December 2000

The plans for rebuilding the Rainbow stand (currently under the working title "East Stand") have been approved by the local council. It transpires that the plans are actually a scaled-down version of the originals that gained approval two years ago - hence the Club's confidence that the approval would be a mere formality. However, the original plans had a price tag attached of over eight million pounds - more than the Club felt wise to spend both then and now.

With season ticket holders now almost fully relocated (albeit with a few hitches along the way) and finance in place, the building plans are now ready to swing into action in the New Year - with the only possible delay being the opportunity to cash in on a home replay of our FA Cup game with Derby County. The second leg of the League Cup game against them brought in one of the biggest crowds of the season so far, and a replay would be sure to do the same.
