Another Scandinavian keeper?

05 December 2000

West Brom have invited Norwegian goalkeeper Morten Bakke for a trial at the Hawthorns. Bakke is currently playing for Molde, is 31 years old, and reports suggest that he would be available for £400,000. He has recently been linked with Coventry City and is said to be keen to play abroad before finishing his career. He's been in the Norwegian Internation squad for the last year or so, but his appearances so far have only been in a few friendly games.

Nowegian Baggie Stian Boe rooted around the press and found a few further bits of information:

"Albion are fighting with one Premier League club and one Division 1 club for Molde keeper Morten Bakke, according to his agent. Molde have not not heard from any Premier League club, but confirmed that they had received a fax today from WBA about having him over for a trial. Bakke doesn't think this will happen, it would more likely be to negotiate a deal. His agent says the Premier League club is the most interesting offer. Molde have agreed not to price him too high as he wants to play abroad for the last stage of his career. Bakke himself doesn't rule out a transfer to Albion as they are high in the table, and used to be a great club."

Latest News: Albion have called off the trial and will not be pursuing the move. Gary Megson said that the player and/or his agent were making too many demands - more than the Club considered reasonable.
