Oliver joins the injury list!

24 November 2000

Midfielder Adam Oliver may be out of action for two months after injuring a medial ligament in the reserves game against Bolton on Wednesday, although the player is due to see a specialist to confirm the extent of the damage and determine whether surgery is necessary. The news comes at the worst possible time, with fellow midfielder and Captain Derek McInnes already being ruled out for the rest of the season with cruciate ligament damage, and puts further pressure on the Club to find a replacememt as soon as possible.

It did look like that replacement might not be Stoke's James O'Connor after all, as the player appeared to have patched up his differences with the manager he blasted in the press earlier this week. Stoke had already rejected a bid from Albion for £750,000 for O'Connor, who was unhappy that he wasn't told about it, but Albion were expected to return with an improved offer, possibly in the order of £1.2 million. However, reports now suggest that the player was separated from his team mates during Thursday's training session, leading to further speculation that his departure may come sooner rather than later - Stoke did not originally want to do anything until the end of the season, but O'Connors outburst may have forced them to reconsider.

No further news on Carlo Nash, either, after the Club turned down the excessive personal terms of both the player and his barrister agent. The Stockport keeper has turned down the offer of a new contract at Edgeley Park and the Club seemed to be happy to release him for a fee, but he demanded to become the highest paid player at Albion and his agent wanted a commission that Gary Megson described as "half my salary for a year for a few hours work".
