Brendan Clegg:

If we can’t beat that lot we really are doomed.

Ramsay, somehow still in a job, picked and 11 that had some sensible decisions but then also looked like we were playing away to top of the league.

The back 4 was arguably as good as it could be with the options available although Taylor’s lack of pace is a worry.

The midfield… Price despite his running ability was not good enough to be a 10 so was replaced by Molumby but shunted out to the wing with MJ left and Maja up top and Diakite partnering Mowatt.

The Hawthorns was barely half full. In a game of such magnitude, when we’re hardly expensive, it was a shock. The lowest attendance for a home league game in a good 20-25 years I think.

It’s difficult to judge whether we were improved or not because Charlton or so rubbish but we ran and pressed and controlled it without ever really hurting them.

The first half was a slog of awfulness in which I can’t recall their keeper making a save until we took the lead from a basic corner - Campbell winning his header to score.

I’d seen enough to think we needed to get Jamma on for Molumby or Diakite at half time to go at Charlton for more goals as they were so bad… and arguably Wallace for Price for a bit more basic balance.

But there were no changes, Charlton offered very little and we seemed content to keep it steady.

In a rare opening Maja missed a big opportunity before he made way for Heggebø.

Another big chance came when, very similar to the game at the Valley we contrived to lose, Price was played in and he either needed to score or square it for a tap-in and he screwed up. Just awful quality.

Soon after what looked like a nothing break ended up with Charlton in behind our left centre back (it’s happened a lot this year) and having had nothing all game they equalised.

Worryingly despite there being time left there was no go-for-broke or high intensity. We kept it slow and sideways. Jamma and Wallace were casually brought on with little time left. Dike didn’t make it on.

In truth, despite a lot of the ball there was no sustained pressure or big chances… just a few speculative attempts. Their keeper had little to do.

The players ran about and had a go but there was no inspiration, no strategy, no ideas. The boldest call of the match, Molumby as a 10, was its most negative and defensive.

Ramsay needs to be gone tonight. There will be no belief in him inside the dressing room. We need that and a miracle now to get out of this. It doesn’t feel likely.

  • O’Leary - 6 Sound enough, not much to do but does feel like an improvement
  • Campbell - 6 Erratic and passes backwards but tries and is physical.
  • Phillips - 6 Didn’t look troubled and yet we conceded again
  • Taylor - 5 done in behind again but he doesn’t pick himself
  • Styles - 7 usual energy and tried to keep the ball
  • Diakite - 6 pretty solid, seemed in control
  • Mowatt - 6 had a lot of the ball but didn’t create much
  • Price - 4 Loads of running but once again his quality cost us
  • Molumby - 6 had a real go but no threat
  • MJ - 7 Took it to them, a constant threat
  • Maja - 5 Same okay touches but is in the team to finish chances like that
  • Heggebø- 3 Form fallen off a cliff
  • Jamma - 5 no time
  • Wallace - 5 same
  • Imra - 5 same!

Absolutely chucking points away to dross. Getting what we deserve for how we set up.

Ancient Baggie:

Awful performance, should have won by a distance but a complete lack of confidence, negative tactics and lack of effort meant we ended up throwing points away. I'm not one for seeing managers sacked but I think Ramsey is completely out of his depth. For me Diakite was probably our best player and to take him off was ridiculous. Price was a passenger and Maja is only any good if the ball is in the box early which never happened.

I think the fans that turned up tried to get behind the team but the players didn't give them much to get excited about.

There's an air of desperation around the place at the moment and in what was probably a must win game to play with just two attack minded players shows how negative we've become.

Definitely now looking at league one football next season.
