Brendan Clegg:

Hugely frustrating one to draw when we should’ve been out of sight. Two points chucked away.

Holgate and Wallace in for Bart’s and Fellows was a bit of a worry but I thought both of them turned in decent performances.

I think our failure to win this one was the result of a total lack of composure in and around the box again, a truly awful pitch which on at least 2 or 3 occasions came to Swansea’s rescue when we looked to be in, and unfortunately the subs we made and the decision to sit back on one goal from 70 mins onwards when we’d looked like we’d carve Swansea open on every attack.

Otherwise it was a pretty good performance again considering the changes and number of games. If this was a normal week with rest I think we might’ve smashed them.

There was a lot to like. We restricted them well and we were definitely continuing the approach of attacking more, in numbers, and at pace.

A bit of a pattern in the last few games is Molumby driving forward with the ball and carrying it long distances. This never happened under Corberan as it is higher risk, and he was clearly coached to slow the game down and keep the ball. It led to the goal here when he did the right thing and calmly found Fellows, and there was another in the first half where he did the same but then shot poorly when Grant was well placed for a cut back.

I thought the other impressive and promising thing from the game was the number of times Diakite won it and sent us on the break. He was very decent again and I’d not have taken him off. Indeed he now starts ahead of Mowatt for me… and Mowatt has been phenomenal for us.

I’m sure the coaches will be cursing themselves and the players will be frustrated, but in the end we went too negative too early and it cost us. Their equaliser was too easy… possession to easily surrendered, the first cross too easily allowed, the second cross too easily allowed and the header too easily unchallenged.

I thought Swansea were rubbish and too easily opened up. Not impressively coached at all.

Argh. Gonna take a few days to get over this one!

  • Palmer - 6 okay. No chance with the goal.
  • Furlong - 6 mostly solid
  • Holgate - 6 calm on an awful pitch
  • Heggem - 6 on top but another header conceded where he’s let someone get in front of him.
  • Styles - 6 All action. Need to close that cross down quicker.
  • Wallace - 6 Couldn’t fault him really. Gave his all and threatened.
  • Molumby - 7 Started poorly but took over. Earned his new deal.
  • Diakite - 7 looked really strong and he and Molumby won the midfield despite being outnumbered.
  • MJ - 7 Threatening and looked up for it
  • Maja - 7 His touch is so good. Caused them problems. Our final ball to him wasn’t good enough.
  • Grant - 7 Stretched them and battled away
  • Fellows - 6 good goal but we needed more from him to take the pressure off
  • Mowatt - 6 Worked hard but couldn’t get hold of it.
  • Grady - 6 ran about, held it well and won free kicks
  • Cole - 5 Chased stuff but there was no supply and it didn’t stick.
  • Swift - 4 Too casual again. Carlos had him slogging away and fighting for his shirt in our opening 5-6 games but he’s reverted to type.
