Preston North End 1 - West Bromwich Albion 1
Brendan Clegg:A few eyebrows raised at the starting lineup. I thought Styles and Molumby would have been right to feel hard done by in missing out. It was a fairly nothing start before we scored with a super move. Fellows came in deep then spun, and a wonderful touch from Maja via a long ball set him running. He found Grant and the clipped finish was a beauty. Early bedlam in the away end and anticipation that this could be a thrashing if we went for it. But we didn’t. The foot came off the gas and whilst we defended okay, there seemed little ambition to push on. We nearly got punished with Holgate clearing off the line. The opening to the 2nd half was pathetic. We allowed them onto us and sat back. A goal was inevitable. A succession of corners and near misses came before, despite being negative and going what looked like 5 at the back with Fellows left wingback for a bit, we allowed a pass inside and neither Racic or Holgate did enough to prevent a free shot which went bottom corner. The subs came with Dobbin and Mowatt making way for Styles and Molumby and we went what looked like 3-4-3. It gave us the impetus back and Maja raced through only to be fouled, with his quick free kick finding Molumby who should’ve done better. But it was too little to late, we ran out of time and taking off Fellows, Grant and Maja got an understandable round of boos. We threw this away by showing way to much respect to the worst team I have seen this season and it was the most vocal anti-Corberan / sitting back on a lead chatter I’ve heard so far in the away end. Very poor.
The pressure is really on CC now I feel, as this result really felt like it was on him. |
