Brendan Clegg:

Bit of a shame we didn’t win that. I think we probably would have with Bartley or Ajayi fit. At least it was entertaining and creative.

I thought the starting 11 was the best we could hope for, we started with an aggressive tempo and deserved our early lead, Holgate cleverly flicking home from a Grant cross following a short corner.

We stayed on top but got suckered out of not much… a long ball deep into our half was chased by their winger who crossed it for a tap-in. I’ve not seen it again but it was a low cross and immediately it looked way too easy.

After that we were on top again but looked poor defensively on Holgate and Furlong’s side, and after a few scares we were powder puff in a move where Norwich got deep into our box without any challenge or physical confrontation and Heggem toed in an og.

Thankfully we went up the other end and via a great move released Fellows to cross and Maja made a difficult volley behind look easier than it was to hammer home.

A minute later Grant scored before it was dubiously disallowed for hand ball. I doubt a penalty or free kick would’ve been given had it been a defender.

At HT the regret was that we’d conceded 2 soft goals and not made the most of Norwich being pretty poor defensively.

2nd half was a mixed bag. We were much more in control and had them under a lot of pressure without creating a killer chance whereas they broke well and probably should have scored.

Our best chance was a header Grant should have done better with and we were on top until Corberan probably made too many changes on 70. I thought Racic made sense but changing both wingers just took our momentum away, and then 10 minutes later removing Maja completely ended our attacking threat.

We probably didn’t need to make those subs but who knows if we’d have found a way through without them. I thought Norwich’s left winger looked like the best player we’ve seen this season.

Despite our run of draws, once again the team gave everything and the fight and spirit was there.

  • Palmer - 7 Made 2 or 3 crucial stops
  • Furlong - 6 Struggled at times but got through it
  • Holgate - 5 improved but got caught wrong side too often and physically weak
  • Heggem - 8 Some player. Rapid, two footed, that 2nd half tackle was as good as a goal
  • Styles - 7 Really giving his all. Was very tidy and relaxed under pressure.
  • Fellows - 7 more like it. Direct, got tackled at times but kept the supply coming in.
  • Mowatt - 6 Neat and kept it well.
  • Molumby- 7 put the yards in and his carrying and passing were both good
  • MJ - 6 Lively, created space
  • Grant - 7 full of running and fight, deserved a goal
  • Maja - 7 just so smart in his play and a really good goal. Again, just put it in the box.
  • Jed - 5 Couldn’t get the pace of it
  • Dobbin - 4 nothing meaningful at all
  • Racic - 6 did okay
  • Cole & Swift - little impact but Swift’s free kick was diabolical
