Brendan Clegg:

Just some very brief thoughts.

In isolation this was a decent battling championship midweek away day point. We probably had the 2 best chances and a good shout for a penalty. At the same time Blackburn created a few chances and might have nicked it too.

I thought Eustace set his team up well - basically two up front to prevent Mowatt from getting on the ball and they put pressure on us. I think he gambled a bit that if we did break through they'd get numbers back and we'd take our time anyway - and he was probably right.

We had periods on top and periods on the ropes. We battled well and moved it well at times but struggled for end product and Blackburn defended their box well.

Some of the subs were a bit frustrating - felt like we prioritized managing minutes over what the game needed. A micro-example of this was taking Maja off in the last minute when he had a throw on the edge of their box.

Had we won at Oxford we'd be happy.

Same problems though. No plan B, no alternative striker and, to be fair to Maja, we've stopped putting the ball in the box early.

  • Palmer - 6 Solid again
  • Furlong - 7 Some strong defensive work and tried to get forward. Missed a good chance.
  • Ajayi - 6 Seen a lot of pelters online but our defensive record is good... be careful what you wish for.
  • McNair - 6 Did okay but let the ball bounce a number of times. Solid cover.
  • Heggem - 6 Another decent game... feel secure with him at left back so I wouldn't be trying him at CB where he's an unknown for us.
  • Mowatt - 6 Couldn't influence as much because they targeted him but neat enough.
  • Molumby - 7 Loads of energy, got about well, looked determined to keep his place.
  • Fellows - 5 Is being doubled up on and bullied a bit, and has stopped being as direct when he has the ball.
  • Diagana - 5 Some bright moments but also too weak too often
  • Grant - 6 Put another shift in and you can trust him physically these days.
  • Maja - 6 I thought he showed some amazing touches and turns, but he can't do it all alone up there.

I thought Swift struggled to get into it, MJ looked a lot brighter but kept slipping over and Dobbin didn't make any impact.
