Sacked in the Morning XI !

04 January 2017

The ignominy attached to a defeat by West Bromwich Albion has claimed another victim, this time the Hull City manager and former Albion midfielder-of-sorts Mike Phelan.

After taking temporary charge following the departure of Steve Bruce, Phelan was given the job full time in October - but after just 85 days in charge, three wins and only three points from the last nine games, Hull found themselves at the bottom of the table following the 3-1 defeat at the Hawthorns and Swansea's win over Palace, and he was shown the door.

Not so long ago, Baggies fans would probably have hoped that Hull would be the sort of club that might decide they needed our gaffers "never been relegated" status more than we did and try to tempt him away, but after picking up four wins from five and being on target for our best ever Premier league finish, we suspect that may no longer be the case. One of the early favourites was Gary Rowett, recently and somewhat unfairly sacked by Birmingham, but it appears that Marco Silva is the more likely candidate after leaving Olympiakos in the summer.
