Thanks... from a Norwich fan??
28 January 2010
...no, not really. Marcus Brien, an Ipswich Town fan, wore a Norwich City shirt at the game at Portman Road on Tuesday to help raise money for victims of the Haiti earthquake. He wrote to us to say:
May I kindly ask you to consider publishing my sincerest thanks to the fans of West Bromwich Albion, who gave me a tremendous reception at half time during the match on Tuesday against Ipswich? I received a huge round of applause from them when I did my lap around the pitch. I was brought up in Handsworth and have many WBA fans as friends, and truly appreciate their support. My brother Tony also played for the baggies under Alan Buckley.
The proactive work of your club in supporting and raising awareness of the DEC appeal is an inspiration to us all. The event was a huge success and the Federation of Haitian Football are delighted with the show of support we have demonstrated towards them.
The Haitian Football Team's motto is; "Strength Comes Through Unity." I am especially appealing to football fans to unite and hold similar events with their rivals. Sponsor a Tottenham fan to brave the Emirates at half time, or a Southampton fan to walk the plank at Portsmouth. Ipswich & Norwich fans are proving this can be done in good spirits and in a way that engages the whole community.
Our actions to date have already been commended by the Federation of Haitian Football, who have stated that our support for their nation is keeping them going, knowing we have their backs!
