Mowbray departure... reported prematurely?

06 June 2009

Online stories in The Times and The Guardian are saying that Tony Mowbray will be unveiled as the new Celtic manager on Monday. Apparently he "beat off competition" from Owen Coyle, who everybody was saying a week ago had turned down the job, and Mark McGhee. Albion are expected to receive around ?1.5 million in compensation, a figure Celtic weren't supposed to be able to afford.

Update

The Sporting Life Transfer Centre is reporting that Albion have again denied the story, quoting a club spokesman saying that they have still had no approach from Celtic for Mowbray. There is no still no statement as yet on the club's official web site, although the Birmingham Mail is also reporting the club as saying they have had no approach.
