Two more defenders?

31 July 2008

Albion appear to be closing in one of their two of their current transfer targets for the new-look back line. Charlton Athletic have reluctanctly accepted a bid of around ?2m for Algerian international centre-half Madjid Bougherra, and reports suggest he is likely to agree personal terms with us despite interest from several other clubs.

We're also pursuing Bolton's Ivory Coast centre-half Abdoulaye Meite, but our latest bid of ?1.5 million has been rejected as "derisory". Which seems odd, as the player is currently training with the youth team after falling out with Gary Megson, who clearly doesn't value him at all...

Further up the pitch, an undisclosed bid for Norwegian midfielder Per Ciljan Skjelbred has been rejected by Rosenborg, although his club are trying to negotiate a new contract for him at the moment and may sell him if they fail to do so while they can still command a reasonable fee.

Update

Oh well. Bougherra has signed for Rangers for ?2.5 million on a four year deal. Next....?
