Norwich City 0 - West Bromwich Albion 1
Brendan Clegg:A better performance than Sunderland and another marginal victory. Thankfully there was no back-tracking from TP and he kept the lineup with 2 wingers playing on their favoured sides. I'd still like an extra attacking midfielder and a lone striker instead of 2 up top so that we'd be better in possession but with Mozza injured there is nobody to play there unless we give Sess a try and play Mcmanaman wide. Sess would probably better than Saido there, who was effectively doing the same thing, but is smaller and doesn't carry the same individual goal threat so overall probably the right selections. We surrendered a lot of possession but at least with Sess & McLean we had ways of getting the ball up the pitch and did cause them problems. Defensively the back 4 and 2 midfielders in front were very good - still a bit dodgy on the ball - Dawson in particular struggles with Sess in front of him because Sess drops into pockets to receive short intricate passes rather than just legging it down the line after a long pass. I think despite it being a better performance it was still marginal - Myhill made some good saves and there were a couple of moments where Norwich should really have done better, volleying high or wide from very close. But it would be wrong not to recognise that Pulis has changed it. I genuinely thought after a horrible spell of games and performances that he was just not going to budge. I think most realistic fans will accept what we are trying to do now - be it Sess, Mcmanaman or McLean out wide on their favoured foot. I don't care how ugly we are without the ball, if we have creative players when we have the ball and we try to attack and score goals, and we don't go back to the dark days of playing players out of position when there are perfectly good options available - I am appeased for now. This was a perfectly acceptable away performance and a hard fought deserved result. I still feel for Mcmanaman and others in the bomb squad who never seem to get an opportunity having never really done badly - and it will be interesting to see what happens when Mozza is fit again or when Sess inevitably has a bad half.
BilneyBoinger:For the knockers this was the exemplary away performance that could be the mark of this season. Comfortable apart from the bad miss by Redmond in the first half. Back 4 were great, especially Evans. Fletcher again stepped up in the second half and snuffed out Hoolahan who dominated playmaking early on. Best player for us? Hard to say but for the negative commentators you have to be surely be silenced by this. Much more confident, better in the passing, and looking more likely to add to the tally second half. Can we win 2-0? Who needs to! Carry on like this and its a top half finish.
