Mark Koppel:

The main person responsible for the rapid decline of our Club from Premier League stability status to relegation is our North Korean Dictator Chairman Mr Jeremy Peace.

He is the one who makes the critical decisions and he has finally been found out by constantly trying to do things on the cheap.

Amongst those critical decisions that he has got so wrong are:

  1. Appointing Steve Clarke who had no Head Coach track record because he was free and available. As soon as the Roy Effect wore off his complete lack of experience came to the fore.
  2. Replacing Dan Ashworth with a Solicitor. As North Korean Dictator Chairman spends little money, he was bailed out by Ashworth's insight and contacts in the transfer market. How misguided then to replace him with someone cheap and available with no football experience at all.
  3. Appointing a non-English speaking Head Coach with no experience of the PL because he was free and available. To make things even more difficult for poor Pepe, he pulls the rug from under his feet straight away by selling Long and giving him no money in January to strengthen.

To add insult to injury, those of us who haven't been bought out by the Dictator, and remain Independent Share Holders, received the Accounts this week. The Chairman has continued to pay himself over ?1million a year in salary even before expenses, pension, any dividends, bonuses and so on. As such I don't think JP will ever sell, not when he continues to pay himself such huge sums and answers to no one.

As far as today's game is concerned the only ratings I will give are:

  • All Players (except Ridgewell and Anechiebe) - 4. Very little effort, the spirit has gone.
  • Ridgewell - 1. Possible the worst performance I have seen from a West Brom player in the PL. This "man" is a complete yellow bellied coward. Pulled out of a tackle for their first goal and turned his back(again) for their second. Also I lost count how many times his passes went to the opposition.
  • Anechiebe - 6. For his effort unlike the rest.

I'm afraid this season reminds me of 1986 when we only won 4/5 games and got relegated.

My last desperate plea is that Jeremy Peace comes out of his bunker and starts to answer to the fans, unlikely as that is.

Didcot Baggie:

As I was walking up Halfords Lane towards the game, I saw a large brown rat run across the road. An omen perhaps - leaving a sinking ship and all that? I certainly didn't go in the expectation of a win and only with the faint hope of a draw. In the end we didn't even get close to my faintest hopes. A Championship team well beaten by a top Premiership team. I'm sure some will say that Van Persie should have been sent off and the general standard of the referee was terrible - the worst this season (and that says something) - that's all true, but we would still have lost. Once Yacob limped off we were in trouble. No steel in midfield and no creativity.

Who in our squad is a genuine premiership player? One that other teams envy us having? Mulumbu perhaps. Ben Foster (although he was poor today. Definitely not the likes of Brunt, Morrison and Gera (great past servants) or Amalfitano. Some people will be calling for Pepe Mel to go - but not me. He can't put players on the pitch we don't have.

We conceded the 2nd goal with only 10 players on the pitch. Why we didn't kick the ball out to bring on a sub who knows, but it sums up our season. Lots of huff and puff, but just not up to the mark.

Steve Fereday:

Stuart Russell - where are you son? I had the most jaundiced view ever after the Palace Cup game. Did you see the United game today? How was that?

All about survival now, and I do think that Peace should change out Mel. Peace will not wait and see us drop. Completely nuts, but that is Prem footy. I think he already has someone in mind. Mel is not going to turn the ship around. The incoming chap needs to be ruthless and show no compassion with any of the current players.

oshawabaggie:

If the Queen were a Baggies fan (and who's to say she isn't?) she would describe the last 12 months as an 'Ano Horibilis'. From the Odemwingie fiasco to the current sad state of affairs we have witnessed what poor management can do to an organization. My ex-boss used to say that lawyers (solicitors) and accountants are 'barnacles on the balls of progress'. You might say that that JP was the victim of his own success by having Hodgson and Ashworth poached by England, but the appointment of Garlick, as already mentioned in this weekends posts, has been an unmitigated disaster. Pepe Mel must wonder why he didn't turn down the job and stick to writing, but at least he will have gathered a stack of material for his next work, a soap opera - 'Crossroads' perhaps?

Bobby Hope:

I think that we are all a bit confused. When I say 'we' I include players, supporters and Mel! The players didn't like the pressing game because they got too knackered and it didn't suit their 'style' of play. So we don't seem to be playing that now BUT we don't seem to be able to support our holding front man when we break.

Just not good enough and not even prepared to scrap it out with an overly physical Manu side who also have a lot of talent - way above the quality of our boys. The third goal showed that.

And I know I am a Dorrans fan but could he be any worse than Gera, Morrison, Brunt, Amalfitano, Sessegnon? I don't think so.

Steve F - I absolutely agree with your post apart from your last sentence and whilst I understand where you are coming from if the new manager doesn't show compassion to the current squad they will all be out the door!!

Onwards and Upwards! COYB!
