Summary:

It's the middle of January and Albion's season is almost over thanks to being dumped out of the FA Cup by Queens Park Rangers at the second attempt.

Steve Clarke dropped Ben Foster, Jonas Olsson and Liam Ridgwell to the bench while Chris Brunt missed the game due to illness. QPR no longer had the services of the released Kieron Dyer, whose equaliser at Loftus Road earned them the replay, but did feature former Baggie Rob Hulse on the bench.

Albion had the majority of the play and recorded nineteen shots compared to QPR's six, but lost out on the one stat that really mattered when Jay Bothroyd headed past Boaz Myhill from a corner. The goal seemed to finally inject some urgency into Albion's play, and Yassine El Ghanassy made a rare appearance in place of Gabriel Tamas as they tried to get an equaliser, but it was too little too late to earn a fourth round tie against MK Dons.

Albion now have to pick themselves up to salvage some pride against Villa on Saturday in front of the TV cameras.

Didcot Baggie:

Very disappointing to lose a game that we controlled for long periods with most players showing more skill than a lack-lusture QPR team - with the exception of Robert Green who produced a series of great saves to prevent Albion forcing extra-time or a win. We played well, although with no great tempo and lacked a killer instinct up front.

If Shane Long had been playing I suspect it would have been different. I thought George Thorne had a good game and Thomas gives us options. With many first-choice players absent we looked half-decent - encouraging for the future. A stronger team will be available for Villa, fingers crossed. We can win that one and get back on track.
