West Bromwich Albion 1 - Liverpool 2
Summary:Albion suffered their first defeat of the season on home soil as current holders Liverpool progressed to Round 4 of the Capital One Cup at their expense. It started well enough for Albion, with Gabriel Tamas prodding home in just the third minute after a dreadul mistake by Brad Jones dropped the ball at his feet from Liam Ridgewell's floated free kick, but Nuri Sahin equalised a quarter of an hour later when Ben Foster misjudged his strike and saw it go underneath him into the net. Having made just five changes from Saturday's lineup, Steve Clarke was then forced into another when Ridgewell was forced off through injury to be replaced by Craig Dawson. Although Liverpool probably had more of the game after equalising, it took them until eight minutes before the end before Sahin found himself with a simple tap-in to win the game. |
