Paul Gainham:

Last night at Yeovil had a raw and almost retro feel to it - they played the liquidator and we sang, they stood us on a small open terrace and at times it lashed it down, they made us queue for the one burger van outside the ground and the piece de resistance, 4 portaloo's in a neat line were the err facilities. Good atmosphere though.

As for the game, a strange one, in my eyes we always looked as though we had enough talent to win it but went about making hard work of it for the first 30 mins of the 1st half and first 20 of the second, outside of that we played some pretty good stuff. The annoying thing is that when we were making it hard for ourselves, we looked pretty bad - our possession and distribution were poor and our defending at times woeful. At times Reuben Reid (yes, the Reuben Reid) looked like a world beater, scored two goals and at times ran our defence inside out.

Yeovil realised pretty quickly that we were vulnerable to the high ball into the box and used that tactic to good effect at times, putting us under real pressure, at times i had the same 'heart in mouth' feel as I used to get during Mowbray's era every time the ball went into our box.

I think Clarke will have seen enough from this to know that outside our first choice back 4, we have very little strength in depth and that's a concern should we suffer injuries to Olsson, McCauley etc.

El Ghanassy looked good, prepared to run at the defence and got in some good positions, he looks like he will be a good 'un once he is acclimatised. Rosenberg did a lot of running but got caught in possession too many times for my liking and his decision making was not great at times.

Overall a comfortable win that should have been even more comfortable - our poor patches could have been down to over confidence maybe or just players not knitting together, either way, what looked like a tricky tie on paper we have come through, in the past I am convinced we would have lost this so another tick in the box for Clarke and his resilient revolution.

Player Marks

  • Myhill 6 Could do nothing with the two goals, needs to command the box more
  • Jara 5 Poor positioning for 2nd goal, went wayward at times
  • Jones 7 Pick of the defensive 4, stuck to his job and got forward well
  • Dawson 4 Poor, a lot of people seem to like this guy, i simply don't see it, weak in the air and v. Poor distribution
  • Tamas 5 Marginally better than Dawson but not much
  • Thorne 5 Another one who people speak highly of, don't see it, added very little to the game
  • Rosenberg 6 Plenty of energy, at times decision making poor and got caught in possession
  • El Ghanassy 7 Looked sharp and up for it
  • Gera 4 Lets just say he had an off night - nothing went right for him
  • Long 6 Again poor touch, poor decision making but scored twice - at this level his mistakes don't cost him
  • Brunt 6 Brilliant goal that lifted the team, overall could have done more to unify the team.
