Mark Koppel:

After showing signs of improvement recently , this is completely Val's fault for not beating Bottom Of The Table Barnsley.

I'm not sure if the Fog got in his eyes but this starting 11 had many errors in it.

This is not being clever with hindsight as many, many West Brom Fans questioned his selections before the game even started.

Here is the starting 11, with obvious errors highlighted.

  • Johnstone 7 - Again little to do apart from one save from a first half free kick. His kicking was good today as were his throw outs.
  • 'Club Foot' Furlong 2 - The first major selection error. If this bloke is a professional footballer, then I'm a Nuclear Scientist.
Where do I start? All his crosses were appalling. Then someone decides to let him take corners, all were appalling.
Then someone decides to let him take free kicks, and responds with blasting one over the bar, worse than appalling.
Then to top it off he receives a great pass onto his right foot (apparently the better one of his 2 club feet), but instead of shooting decides to cut back onto his left club foot giving ample time for a defender to block it.
  • Townsend 6 - Quiet game, especially first half. Unfortunately most of the play was on Club Foot's side rather than down his wing.
  • Bartley 5 - Again very little to do against a very poor Barnsley attack.
  • Kipre 7 - Solid and was West Brom's closest player to scoring.
  • Clarke 6- Good player, strong in his challenges and tries to play the ball forward rather than a hoof.
  • Mowatt 6 - Not as dominate as he was against Coventry and Reading. Remains our best central midfielder.
  • Joke Livermore 3 - If he is a better option than TGH, then I'm not just a Nuclear Scientist, I'm Albert Einstein.
  • Robbo 7 - Quite possibly our main threat today, but gets taken off again. And to insult him even more, Huge Bill stays on.
  • Grant 7 - Came close to scoring with a fantastically timed run, rounded the keeper well but just took it slightly too wide before shooting.
  • Huge Bill 2 - Obviously we get a discount from Norwich for keeping him on all game . Cannot run, cannot jump, cannot shoot. But my God he is very good at pulling shirts and giving away fouls.

Subs -

  • Grady 6 - Still lacking confidence and being lower in the pecking order than Huge Bill will destroy anyone's confidence.
  • Reach 5 - Not on long enough.
  • Mulumby 5 - On long enough to get another yellow card.
