Grorty Dick Charity Auction

A fantastic piece of memorabilia up for grabs with the chance to raise money for a good cause

Fundraising by Grorty Dick Fanzine for the Dovedale Day Care Centre (where the King enjoyed respite care in his later days) continues at every game this season. A few generous donations from individuals both in and outside this country have helped push the total along steadily and already we?re approaching ?400. The main thrust remains encouraging our readers to pay ?1 for their Dick with the additional 20p going straight into the fund. All our sales team are under instruction to maintain a running total of donations to make sure your generosity is not overlooked.

Twenty pence doesn?t seem a lot but when several hundred supporters chip in for home matches, the overall total is significant. One co-editor alone has taken in excess of 100 donations for a single game this term.

So why the pictures of the Sports Argus?

A very kind supporter, who prefers to remain anonymous, has donated a 1931 Cup Final Sports Argus to auction for the Dovedale fund. The newspaper is in excellent condition considering its vintage with just a few minor tears on the edge of one or two of its broadsheet pages. Also included is a team poster of the two finalists.
It?s a fascinating record of a bygone era when venerable Dick editor Terry was just a lad. The days when a special plane was chartered just to get a match photograph into the Argus and a time when there was a full League programme on Cup Final day. An era where Arsenal were top of the tree, OK, not everything has changed!

So come on then, who wants it? Email bids please by January 8th to dick@football4sale.com or hand sealed bids to any Dick seller on matchday. The highest bidder wins providing we?re satisfied the bid is genuine. (Subsequent payment must be made by cheque). All proceeds will go into the fund.
